Sun Worship

I'm going to take this opportunity to rant about sun worship. More than one million new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed each year. Over 50,000 of those cases are melanoma. This is a mostly preventable disease. It boggles my mind how people bake out in the sun on purpose. There is no such thing as a safe tan. The sun's rays damage your DNA. The more often or more severe the damage the harder it is to repair.

I'm pretty good about daily sunscreen. I poured the stuff on when we were in St. John and I still got burned. Oh, that's another thing. I was amazed to see people who were beet red still out in the sun. I just don't get it. People seem to love cooking themselves under the sun and in the tanning booths. Tanned skin now equals wrinkles and possibly cancer later.

I swear, I wore sunblock every single day I was in Tennessee. Really I did! I even reapplied and everything. Just like you said. The sun was just so strong. I felt like my skin was cooking. :-(

Spray Tan is the only thing I do for color :)

Nicole, I was thinking, at the end of the day we were kind of miserably covered in suntan lotion and wax (I use a wax stick on my face). It seemed like no matter what I couldn't get it all off. You must of been infinitely more miserable without hot water or a real shower. Wearing long sleeves and long pants wouldn't have been so fun in that heat either. Yuck.

I agree completely! I almost always (except when I am with you ;-) get made fun of for my huge hat and long sleeve linen shirt, which I wear when in the sun. And that is on top of the sunscreen! I need to get one of the wax sunscreens for Joey. Thanks for the reminder!
