Story of the Nazi Flag

My grandpa fought in World War II.  He spent time in North Africa and Europe.  The story I always heard was that he came home with a Nazi flag.  My grandma cut it up into hearts and made a quilt out of it.

My mom gave me the quilt this last time I was visiting.  I brought it home and I've washed it a couple of times to try and get the mothball smell out of it.  Unfortunately the batting is coming out of the quilt backing and forming little white pills.  I'm working on picking those off.

I'm going to use this quilt, just like I use the others I have.  They were made to keep people warm, not be kept in a cabinet or hung on a wall.

Bucket List: Amish Country

I wanted to get a quilt in Amish country before we moved.  I headed up to Pennsylvania one afternoon and went shopping.  I came home with two quilts, a traditional quilt with a star and an antique grandmother's garden hexagon quilt.  I love, love, love the antique quilt.  It was 1920s and had never been used/washed.  We are now using it on our double-size bed in the new apartment.  The star quilt is more of a throw-size.  Bailey seems to like it.

Oh, and I came home with a gallon of raw milk and a pie too. Yummy.

Photo Month: Day 25: Bailey and the Quilt

I love this photo. It shows Bailey in our quilt before it was finished. You can see the pins along the edge above her head. Good times. Ross says if I ever try to quilt again he'll divorce me. He's serious. I guess if I ever want another quilt I'll have to go buy one in Amish country or have one commissioned.
