New Soles

So as I said before, I walked the soles off my boots in NYC. I took them to be fixed and got them back about a week later. The guy did a great job. He put on new soles and heels. 

The heel he put on is a bit thicker than the original one, so maybe these will last more than 2 years. I love my Miz Mooz boots.

Shoe Shopping in NYC: I Love Miz Mooz

Shoe shopping is a must for me when I visit New York City. I love Miz Mooz shoes and shop for them at Infinity Shoes. They have several locations, but the one on Broadway between 3d and 4th is the best. Abbi and his guys are always helpful and patient. I was really sad when I tried on 4 or 5 pairs of shoes and left with nothing. They just didn't have the shoes I liked best in my size.

I dragged Kitson from store to store looking at shoes. The guys on Broadway between Walker and White were not nice or particularly helpful. On a whim we went into DSW. The ONE pair of shoes I picked up happened to be Miz Mooz. Kitson spotted a couple more pair (looking for that distinctive orange box) and I found my new shoes!

I walked the soles off of my tall Miz Mooz boots on this visit to NYC. I took them in yesterday to be resoled. I just love those boots and it is worth the money to have them resoled.

Shoe Dichotomy

I have a shoe obsession, yet I love being barefoot. I love sexy wedges, but don't wear mine much. I have nice tennies, but would much rather work out barefoot. I'm all for the barefoot shoe movement, and now I have a pair of my own thanks to some Amazon money (Thanks Ainsmar!).

I got a pair of Merrell Vapor Glove running shoes even though I never run. I wore them for the first time last week on an outing to Ikea and the outlet mall. I could feel rocks and stuff through the shoe, but I survived. After a few hours my feet were sore and my right ankle hurt. I was expecting some soreness as I got used to them. I've been wearing them since and I haven't had any problems. These shoes are so lightweight and comfortable that I forget I'm wearing them--and I don't automatically kick them off as soon as I enter the house--like I do with all my other shoes.

I know Ross would prefer it if I wore heels all the time, but these are so comfy!

Birthday Shoes

I got three pairs of shoes for my birthday. And yes, I've already chosen 3 pairs of shoes from my collection to get rid of. I'll donate 2 pairs, and one pair will become my dirty/mud shoes for hiking and stuff.

The top and bottom ones are the ones that Ross bought me at Miz Mooz. I bought myself the Guess shoes in the middle. I'm wearing them at work today. I don't care that it is cold outside. I have my little space heater on next to me to keep my naked legs warm.

9th Birthday in NYC

We took the bus up to NYC to celebrate my 9th birthday. This is a great panoramic shot of the hotel room that Ross took. Man, the hotel was whack. The color combinations were awful, lamps in our room were broken, and the carpet was so ugly. It didn't really matter though. We were just there to sleep. Still, the white patent leather headboard was funny.

Our first stop in NYC was Ess-a-Bagel, where we got some breakfast. I only ate half of my poppy seed bagel with scallion cream cheese because I wanted to save room for everything else I had on my list of things to eat.

This photo is of one of the ceiling paintings in the New York City Public Library. The library was really cool. I like that it isn't just a beautiful old building, it is still in use.

After the libro we had some hot chocolate at Lily O'Brien's cafe. We got a dark hot chocolate and a milk hot chocolate. I think if we had mixed the two of them together it would have been perfect. I think the milk was a little too sweet and the dark was a little too flat. We also got some chocolates in a box to go. I had a ganache last night and it was pretty good.

Still full from hot chocolate we walked back up to Del Frisco's for steak and cake. My salad, steak, and cake were fabulous. As you can see we dug into the cake before I remembered to take a picture. This cake is so good that every time I eat it, I say I'm going to write an ode to it. I need to get around to that. This is my favorite cake of all time. It was wonderful with my cup of tea. I really didn't want to share with Ross, but there is no way I could eat it all myself.

We took the subway downtown after lunch and I bought some flavored green teas at Harney & Sons. I had a couple of cups of their Bangkok blend this morning. Mmmmm. Yummy.

We ate churros at La Churreria after we finally managed to find it. The churros were fresh and came with a chocolate dipping sauce, but I really didn't think they needed the sauce. They were better without it.

Then came shoes. We spent a while at Miz Mooz shoes. I left with two pairs. A pair of short lace-up boots and a pair of flats. I love them both. The boots were on my birthday wish list. I'm so happy I got them. I'll do a separate post with photos of all my bday presents.

Cake, shoes, and tea. I'm happy.

Collection Subset: Miz Mooz Shoes

I often lament that I'm not good at anything. I look at my collections, and think that I don't even have a decent collection of anything. Then I realized I have a beautiful collection of shoes. I have over 40 pairs of shoes. My Miz Mooz shoes are special. Except for the flats each pair of shoes represents a trip to New York City. I buy shoes instead of souvenirs. I really want to show off my new boots, but it is a little too hot right now. I think I'll show off my strappy sandals for now.

NYC: Day One

We headed up to NYC on Friday morning on the Megabus. We didn't take a suitcase. I took my big purse and Ross took a back pack. That's it. Ross was very impressed with how little I packed. We arrived in NYC around 12:30 I think, and we were very hungry. We took the subway down to Chinatown and ate at New Green Bo. They have great steamed vegetable dumplings. We got an order of those and eggplant with garlic sauce. It was just the right amount of food. Then we walked in a big circle looking for the bakery we like in Little Italy. Okay, let me mention now that it was very hot, and very humid. When I bit into that cold, cream-filled lobster tail I was in heaven.

We walked down to the financial district and checked into our hotel. After a short rest we headed up to the theater district to enter the Book of Mormon lottery.

Look at the crowd! There were so many people! Everyone entered to win $32 tickets to the show. We didn't win. Someone else named Brown won.

We left and went down to 34th street for some shopping. It rained. It was hot and humid and icky sticky. I looked at shoes in Macy's. We went to Infinity Shoes and I fell in love with a pair of boots. We stopped by La Bella Ferrara again for more pastries and then dragged ourselves back to the hotel.

Bliss

I've been jonesing for a shoe fix for a while now. I've specifically been wanting these sandals since I saw them in a magazine. The trouble was that I couldn't find them in any store and I wanted to try them on. Last weekend I was surfing the internet and I found the shoes--and they were half price. I took a chance and ordered them. They came yesterday and I'm giddy. I ordered the shoes in the right size. Ross likes the them, but he didn't like me wearing them around with brown socks to stretch out the front straps.

I this this purchase will hold me for a while, but I can't wait to get me some Miz Mooz shoes at Infinity Shoes in NYC.

I love that these shoes don't have logos all over them so I'm not a walking billboard.

New Shoes

I recently decided to buy some flats. I wanted them to wear to work. I have many problems with flats. 1. I don't like toe cleavage. 2. I have a narrow heel. 3. I find completely flat shoes uncomfortable. 4. I like to be taller.

I turned to my favorite shoe brand, Miz Mooz to find the perfect flat. Miz Mooz shoes are now available at Nordstrom, Macy's, and select boutiques, so I didn't have to go to New York City to try on or buy a pair. I ended up trying on a pair of (yellow) shoes at a store in Bmore and then ordering them (in green) online at Endless.com. Endless is affiliated with Amazon, so I was able to use the last of my Amazon money to partly pay for the shoes. After I ordered the shoes I went shopping at the mall. I was thrilled to see Miz Mooz shoes at Nordstrom Rack! They had a great pair of flats in red in my size, so I ended up buying them. So far the flats are pretty comfy. They need to be fully broken in. I've been wearing band aid tape on my heels to prevent blisters. The green ones are a little tight on my high instep, but I think they'll stretch.

I was talking to an old pal yesterday about shoes and how our husbands feel about us buying so many pairs of shoes. Ross summed it up this way: if they are heels, he approves, if they are anything else, he just doesn't care.

At Nordstrom Rack I also found a pair of heels--cheetah print fur heels. I love them and Ross approves. I now have over 30 pairs of shoes!

Waters and Wellies

After tearing up my feet in the river I decided to buy some water shoes. I really don't like the ones that are mesh on top and rubber on the bottom. I have such bad memories of those. They smell so bad! I found some Speedo Hydro Tread shoes on ebay and bought them. They arrived super quickly and now I'm ready for our next trip to the river.

I have toyed with the idea of getting wellies. Silly, I know, but it seemed that every time I left the house in April it rained. We have had some major downpours here lately and it got me thinking about boots again. I found some cute rubber boots on ebay, but the price went higher than I was willing to pay. I went to DSW with Valerie yesterday and found a really great pair. The really odd thing is that when we went to the clearance section I found them there too. Same boots. Same size. Same color--but thirty percent off. Okay. That works for me. The thing is, that isn't the only pair of shoes I saw both in the regular area and the clearance area. I had a ten dollar off coupon, so I think I got a pretty good deal. The boots are actually clear rubber and the print is on the inside--on cloth.

It was raining yesterday when we left the house to run errands. I wore my new wellies. I jumped in the water puddles, just like I told Ross I would. My pants got a little wet, even though I had them rolled up. Good clean fun, and all my other shoes were at home, nice and dry.

This Year's New Shoes

I bought two new pairs of shoes recently (to celebrate breaking 140). I bought the Steve Maddens that Evelyn had fun walking around in, and this pair of Michael Kors stacked heels. The stacked heels were a little expensive. I wavered back and forth about whether to buy them. They started talking to me saying "Kat, I'm cute, I'm sexy. You know you want me. You bought long length jeans just so that you could wear me." With these shoes on I'm taller than Ross. He loves them. The first time I wore them I got an instant blister. I think I've fixed that problem. This photo doesn't look as great as last year's against our red walls. Oh well, the shoes are just as great.

Evelyn Graduates

My mom and I went down to Germantown yesterday. Mom stayed home with Julia while Valerie and I went to Evelyn's preschool graduation. Evelyn and her class received diplomas and sang songs.

Evelyn loved my new shoes and she wore them around the house for a while. I think the shoes were twice as long as her feet!

We went and ate Japanese to celebrate Evelyn's graduation. I think the funniest thing yesterday was when Evelyn asked if we could listen to Linkin Park on the way to the restaurant. Evelyn wasn't happy about going to eat Japanese, but she totally changed her tune when she got to eat her udon noodles with rubber banded chop sticks.

New Shoes!

So I won't bore you with all the details, but I became slightly obsessed with buying new shoes. I spent Friday afternoon checking out Internet sites looking for some good retro style pumps. (I also spent some time looking at some great retro clothes...I need to start sewing again. (The clothes are pricey.)) Luckily we have a great shoe store in Arlington--Electrique Boutique. It's the local stripper supply shop. I found two pairs of shoes that I really liked and bought them both. The prices were good and Sodas (platform flip flops) were on sale for 9.99, but they were sold out of the ones I wanted. So here are photos of my two new pairs of shoes. We have a birthday party to go to tonight. I might wear the black ones.
