June Goals

I'm horribly out of shape, and chronically lazy. To try and bust out of my rut I've come up with some goals for June.

  1. Exercise 60 minutes each day.
  2. Publish a blog post each day.
  3. Complete a Summer project.

February Goals

So February has come fast upon us.  Time for a new set of goals.  But first let's review last month's.

  1. Wearing my retainers.  I did surprisingly well with this one...after the first two weeks I really only wore them at night, and I only missed two or three nights.
  2. Finish my mom's hooded scarf---DONE!
  3. Exercise 3 times a week--bah.  Well, actually I went to yoga 5 times this month.  I didn't really exercise this week, didn't quite complete this one.  I've been using my shoulder pain as an excuse.
  4. Read a book--yeah, did that!

Three out of four isn't bad, and it's kinda like 3.5 out of 4 because I did exercise 3 times a week most of January.

For February my goals are:

  1. Practice my Cello.
  2. Finish my upholstery projects.  This is a big one.  I have a foot stool that I dragged out of the dumpster back in Maryland that needs to be redone and a chair that came from Ross's mother that needs a new seat.  I have taken everything apart, now I need to get new fabric and put it all back together.
  3. Try a new recipe each week.
  4. Try a new restaurant.
  5. Complete the February photo project.

January Goals

So I'm not exactly making New Year's resolutions this year.  I'm going to try and set goals each month. Goals for January:

  1. Wear my retainers every day.  Tejal is doing invisalign, and it really inspired me to start wearing my retainers.  My teeth are killing me, but I'm committing to wear the retainers every day this month.
  2. Finish my mom's hooded scarf.  I need to get knitting so that I can give it to her next week.
  3. Exercise 3 times a week.  I have a problem with consistency.  I am a binger.  I'll go without exercising for 2 months, then exercise every day for a week then go weeks without exercising again.  I don't really enjoy exercise, but I need to learn to make it part of my (currently non-existent) routine.
  4. Read a book.  A real book, not a graphic novel or children's picture book.  I have one checked out from the library right now.  I'm confident I can handle this goal.
That's it for now--that's plenty to deal with. We'll see how I do.

Oh, Yeah, I Forgot

For some reason I started looking at vintage dresses on ebay last night. I love vintage dresses, especially from the 50's, but I've never bought one. Why? Because I don't have a waspish waist. It seems that most dresses in the 50's were made for women with small breasts and teeny tiny waists. 24 or 26 inch waists!

I somehow forgot that's why I've never bought a vintage dress. In fact, because of this problem I have spent money on vintage patterns so that I could make a dress that would fit. Have I made a dress? Only one, and that was years ago. I suppose that's something I should put on next year's list of goals. Sewing a dress is a lot more realistic than losing 30 pounds to try and achieve a 26 inch waist.

Finished Blue Cable Tube Scarf

Here is my overdue post about knitting a scarf for Tejal. I think it took me about a year and a half to finish knitting this scarf. I made up the pattern and knitted a scarf in the round. I wish I had made it a bit skinnier (like Tejal), because it would have looked nicer and I would have finished faster. This is the first knitting project that I finished this year. I have a sewing project that I want to work on, then I think I'll go back to knitting. This weekend I bought some yarn for a specific project that I think will knit up very quickly. I knitted this scarf with size 2 needles I think. Tiny. I'm not doing that again for a while.

Looking Back: Goals for 2011

I'm looking back at my goals for 2011. I've accomplished two of my goals: I've finished the Dark Tower series, and I've gone to the drive in more than three times this year. I've worked on a couple of others--I've finished one knitting project, and I've gone to NYC once. I think the next thing I need to work on is reading a book in Spanish. I don't think I'm even going to try reading (again) the book I have. I'm going to look for something simpler. I need to check and see if they have something at the library.

I don't think I'll get to NYC three times this year. Probably just twice. I think two out of three is enough to call that a goal accomplished. I weigh less today than I did when I wrote the goals post on January 1st, but I'm still not down to 140.

I haven't accomplished all my goals, but the year isn't over yet.
