Watercolor: Semi-abstract

I just finished this painting. I'm fairly happy with how it turned out.

Watercolors

I'm in my third round of watercolor classes and I've finally finished some paintings.
This one was basically an exercise. Practicing different techniques all on one sheet of paper.
Here is the octopus I worked forever on. I finally painted the octopus part. I'm not thrilled with it, but I learned some things while painting it.
This brain coral and the fish above it is my favorite part of the painting. I kind of like the curled up tentacle too. It reminds me of the curl on the top of a cello.
I finished this one last night. I like it. It looks better in person, and from a little far away. It is a closed trumpet flower surrounded by flowers.

The Watercolors

Ross's grandmother had a beautiful house with lots of beautiful things.  When she died Ross's family asked him what he wanted from the house.  He said he wanted the watercolors.  His mother told him that they had already been claimed by a cousin.  Fast forward 15 years...one day I used Susan's (Ross's mother) restroom and saw the watercolors hidden away in the tiny little toilet area. You sneaaaaaky Mom!

Well, when Ross's mother died Ross claimed the watercolors.  We brought them back with us from El Paso and I hung them up over the fireplace.  It is funny to think of Ross's grandmother having these racy watercolors.

The Impressionists

The plan was to go to the museum today and see The Impressionists art exhibition. When I checked the hours and ticket prices online yesterday I found out that Friday nights are half price. Score! We headed to the Kimbell and checked out all the paintings. Ross actually enjoyed the exhibit. We saw paintings by Renoir, Manet, Monet, Gauguin (I'm not a fan), Seurat, Sisley, Pissarro, van Gogh, and more. We both loved one particular painting by Monet of a branch of the river Seine (I can't find a photo that does it justice). We both also marvelled at Gustav Caillebotte's famous painting Paris Street; Rainy Day. That painting was huge! The place was buzzing with people. We got the audio tour for free, but didn't listen to much of it. I just like to look at the art. I don't like people telling me what it means or why it is significant. I am a big fan of impressionism, so I really wanted to go. I'm so glad we went. After the special exhibit we took a look at the permanent collection. Nothing I couldn't live without, but there was a Picasso that made me chuckle. It was a good way to spend Halloween I guess.
