I'm Heeee-ehr

I'm here! I know I haven't posted in almost a month.  I've been busy, and I have plenty of posts to catch up on, but I want to post this photo before I go to bed.
Here I am in Texas!  That's right, I've come home.  Tonight we are staying in Burleson.  We will make it to Austin tomorrow and unload our overstuffed Subaru into our new apartment.  I was giddy when we crossed the state line into Texas.  Bailey has done really well with the drive.  Yesterday she sat on our laps the whole 12 hours, but today she was eaten by the seat monster and spent most of the day under the passenger side seat.  Only 3 more hours of driving to our new home.

Definite Improvement

We worked hard yesterday to get the living room cleared and the dining room set up. The place looks a lot larger now without all the empty boxes laying around. The catch--as you can see in the second photo the guest room is FILLED with boxes...mostly full. Today I am going to work on setting up that room so that we can at least walk through it.

The poor blue cabinet is holding tons of frames. Don't worry, it is still full of booze--the overflow is on the wine rack in the foreground of the photo. Ugh. Taupe walls.

The three units in our driveway. The box unit partially filled.
The Subee stuffed with last minute things (including the Singer table).
Bailey in the grips of the seat monster.

Dinner and a Movie

The movie was first. We went and saw The Watchmen yesterday. Ross and I both really liked it. It had all four elements of a good movie. We had both read the book (graphic novel), and we both thought they did a really good job making it into a movie.

After the movie we headed to Germantown to see Valerie, Troy, Evelyn, and Julia. I'm so thankful that she invited us over. It was nice to have a home cooked meal after a couple weeks of sandwiches and eating out. Tomorrow I'm going to unpack the kitchen so we can have our own home cooked meals. Anyway, we had a great meal (and cocktails) with Valerie and the gang. Ross played with Evelyn a whole bunch and I read her a couple of books.

It got late and Troy put Evelyn to bed. To save Val a trip up the stairs (she's 2 weeks out from foot surgery) I put Julia to bed. Easy breezy. I've never seen a baby go down that easy. I just laid her down, rubbed her belly, then sat in the glider for a couple of minutes to she make sure she was okay. I once put Evelyn down for a nap, and it was also super easy (but she tried to stall and Julia isn't old enough for that). I had to confess my love for Valerie when she calmly explained to Evelyn that she couldn't have a snack because we were about to eat dinner. Evelyn got over it, and ate dinner when it was ready. Ah, reasonable people. We had a great time with them.

Today we just relaxed. I'll start unpacking tomorrow. It will be strange trying to find a new place for everything. The carpet is strange. I already miss our wood floors.

Tomorrow is Ross's first day of work. I'm hoping that tomorrow our moving units are taken away. They are taking up three parking spaces. We are going to have to get into a new routine (not that we had a really good one the last few months).

Spray, Scrub, Wipe

I have been cleaning the house while Ross has been painting. This morning he painted around the windows in the living room. Yeah! He's been in the guest room a while working on the trim, windows, and doors in there. I think we will even get the ceiling of our bedroom painted before we leave.

I have been dusting and cleaning, and scrubbing and wiping. It is like the ultimate Spring cleaning event. The major thing that is left is the floors. I have swiffered a bunch, but now we need to sweep (Ross is good at that) and mop. The scooba is on the fritz, so we packed it, and I will go across the street to see if I can buy a cheap mop. We can't put Murphy's oil soap in the scooba anyway, and I want to make the floors look really nice.

Oh, and we have to pack up the last few things that are left. Mostly clothes and bathroom items. And the Singer sewing table accidentally got left behind. Oops. We are going to try and fit that in the subee also.

Moving

Well, right after I finish this post I need to get back to packing. The back room is all packed up, as is the guest room. Today Ross is going to work on painting the trim in the guest room. He painted the ceiling in there last night. I think the bulk of the packing is done. The moving units come tomorrow. We will have a couple days to fill them and they will take them away on Friday at some point.

Today I taught my last class at 24 Hour Fitness. I am really going to miss those folks. I took them oatmeal cookies, and they seemed to like that. Two more classes and I'm done. I'll go back to working out at home, and hopefully I'll be doing more yoga (lately I haven't been practicing at home at all).

We haven't found someone to rent out the house yet. The timing is a little off. TCU students don't want to start renting until June. Maybe that will give me some time to come back down here and fix up a few things...

On an unrelated note: Bailey is still purring like a real cat. In the mornings especially she purrs nonstop. I think she is finally realizing something is up, but she's having fun playing in the boxes and biting the plastic and bubble wrap that is strewn all over.

Time to get back to it...even though Bailey is trying to curl up in my lap.

The Good Thing About Moving

I don't think anyone really likes moving. I'm so used to packing and unpacking--it is just part of my life. The good thing about moving is that I get to go through everything--and get rid of a lot of things (I'm paranoid about become a hoarder--hoarding runs in my family). We sold a bunch of stuff at our garage sale. We donated the leftovers--and more. I have already started another box of things to donate.

We are moving from a three bedroom home to a two bedroom condo. Downsizing our stuff is a necessity--and we have LOTS of stuff. Getting rid of stuff makes me feel better. I feel like I'm not in such danger of becoming a hoarder. I feel like my house will be cleaner, and my life simpler. Sometimes I wish I could chuck it all, but I'm too attached to things. I know I wouldn't miss most of the things, but I can't seem to let them go. I have tons of paper (I love to buy cards, fancy paper, notebooks, any kind of paper), a fountain pen collection, shelves full of books, two closets full of clothes, many sets of glasses, a few set of dishes--the list goes on and on, but I am getting rid of things--it is the one good thing about moving.
