Dirty Bed

Ross is out of town for work.  I made a dirty bed out of a couple of his shirts for Bailey.  On Sunday night I guess she was missing him. She curled up on his shirts and wouldn't move.  I have trouble going to bed/falling asleep without Ross and Bailey so last night I put the dirty bed in the bed so that Bailey would sleep with me.  Right now she is curled up on my newest cashmere sweater.  We love our cashmere.

Whooo For Whiskey Dalton

I wanted a quick project to knit and decided to knit up a bib for John's baby.  I have a ton of this cotton blend yarn, and I have no idea what to do with it.  A bib seemed as good as anything.  It is machine washable and dyer safe.  It won't look great when it comes out of the dryer, but who cares.  A baby is going to drool and spit up all over it.  This was a pretty quick knit and only took me a couple of days.

Gingie Surprise

I came back from Maryland this week to find that Gingie sprouted a bunch of leaves.  Hooray!

Musings on Mass Air Transit

As I sat on my seat on the airplane yesterday I thought about how routine flying has become. Millions of passengers fly every day.

I enjoy flying.  I usually sit by the window to soak in the unique perspective from 30,000 feet.  I also like to sit over the wing.  Yesterday I marveled at the clouds as we cut through them.  As we began our decent and the ailerons extended I could actually see the airflow over the wing.  It awed me.  Most people don't think about how airplanes work.  I don't think they want to.  In fact, I have seen passengers get visibly upset when Ross is explaining things to me.  I guess people just want to get where they are going.  They don't really care to think about how.

I have some rules when it comes to flying.

  • Lots of layers.  I hate being cold.
  • Natural fabrics.
  • Closed toed, reasonable shoes.
  • Must have water bottle and a snack.
  • I count the number of rows to the emergency exits
One game I used to play with my dad when we flew was to try and predict when we would touch down.  I remember one time predicting from 10 minutes out.  I still try to guess.  I usually start counting down from 10 as I stare out the window.  Yesterday I was right on the money and we hit the tarmac just after I said one.

Back at TSNY DC

I had a great class at TSNY DC this morning. I kinda felt like I was back at home--trapeze-wise.  I was so much more relaxed and comfortable.  I didn't have any shoulder pain at all and I feel like my take offs were better, even though I still had trouble lifting the bar (same as always).  I worked on my swing, my take offs, and then we worked on the back end gazelle.  I didn't have a successful catch--Meghan said I did a great trick, but Kirsten is a little short, so we just barely missed.

Hooray Gingie!

I have been quite worried about Gingie for a while now.  Spring has Sprung here in Texas, and I was getting no love from Gingie.  All I had was a naked stick.  I was really concerned that I had killed Gingie.  Still, I've been watering him faithfully and talking to him (and shaking/thumping him a little) and telling him to wake up.

This week I noticed that the clover in Gingie's pot has really started to grow and I thought--surely clover is more fragile than a Ginkgo Biloba tree!  If the clover is okay, then Gingie must be okay too.

Well, I just went out onto the balcony and since yesterday Gingie has sprouted a few leaves!  I am so relieved!

He's alive!!

Side note: He is also covered in little specs of paint because the contractors painted the balcony and got paint on Gingie and Rosie. That is one of the reasons I was so worried.  I thought the paint might have killed him.  You can sort of see little whitish speckles of paint in the close up photo.

Newsprint Nails 2.0

Today I tried the newsprint technique again.  This time I used white nail polish and dipped the newspaper in alcohol.   I got more ink and less paper this time.I like how it turned out.
